Creating the Twin Lights Trail

The Twin Lights Trail will connect three historically and naturally significant public parks. The trail will be approximately two miles in length on public lands and existing road rights of way. The parks to be connected are Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook Unit including the Fort Hancock National Historic Landmark and Twin Lights of the Navesink State Historic Site and National Historic Landmark. The historical themes of Coastal Defense and Commerce and Navigation are interwoven through each of the sites. All areas individually are receiving large numbers of visitors throughout the year, and many of those visitors are enjoying use of existing trails at those locations. Interconnecting these trails will increase the accessibility and outdoor recreational use and bring more people than ever to the Twin Lights.
